Wayne & Reneé Rowe

Having entered the wine industry in 1998 after graduating from The Wine School of Atlanta, Renée Rowe is considered an industry expert. Since graduating and completing her apprenticeship at Ansley Wine Merchants in Atlanta, GA, she has become a national speaker, wine consultant and educator. She brings an impressive blend of experience, expertise and enthusiasm to the world of wine and food. She’s an accomplished author and writer having written articles for industry publications such as The African American Wine Journal, Essence Magazine, and The Art of Pairing Food & Wine. Mrs. Rowe is a highly energized wine education professional experienced with designing, developing and delivering a wide range of technical and informational wine education workshops.

By applying formal training and experience in designing wine education programs and materials adaptable to a broad spectrum of attendees, she utilizes assorted analogies and the creative imagination of a storyteller to keep attendees engaged, alert and participative throughout the experience. Reneé's ability to transmit her passionate interest and love for wine make her a natural teacher. One of just a handful of African-American wine merchants and educators, Reneé was the first female African-American owned wine retailer in the metro Atlanta area.

In 2002, Reneé founded the African American Wine Tasting Society, Inc. (AAWTS) – a national, non-profit organization dedicated to wine education where she began conducting wine classes and seminars. She currently serves as Executive Director and Consultant for the organization and offers consulting services for business start-ups, marketing and growth strategies, trade seminars, menu planning and private wine classes. Key to her process is an open, collaborative dialogue with all engaged in the mission of any project. She regularly conducts wine classes and seminars both in her wine shop, as well as off-site wine seminars for businesses across the country.

In 2004, she opened a brick and mortar shop, The Wine Cellars (www.winecellarsonline.com), in Smyrna, GA. Her wine shop and wine bar offers a unique selection of fine wines from around the world. In addition to retail and on-premise (by-the-glass) offerings, the shop features weekly educational wine tastings and conducts a variety of wine classes and seminars. As Sommelier for The Wine Cellars, Renée has garnered many “BEST OF” awards, including Best Wine Shop & Tastings in Atlanta and Top 10 Best Wine Bars in Atlanta for several years (including 2015). With the many wine events held in her shop, Renée has turned The Wine Cellars into a wine destination for both locals and tourists and she has acquired a reputation for passion and excellence in wine education.

Reneé is married to Wayne, who also lends a hand at the shop. They have two children.

Reneé holds a B.A. from Central Connecticut State University.
