Wine Pick #7
2006 Frog's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon

90 Points - Wine Spectator
|
|
Reg. $44.99/SALE $34.99*
TWC Wine Club Member Price: $29.99*
Crafted in the most traditional and natural ways, the
Frog's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon delivers a soft texture, ripe fruit and
a deep connection to its soils - all with an alcohol level below 14%.
Aromas of currant and blackberry combine with a warm spice tone right
out of the glass. Flavors of dried black fruits pick up on the palate
with added, subtle touches of cedar, leather and a hint of black
olive. The wine's resolved tannins and integrated oak allow for a
mouth-feel that is soft yet lean with a long finish that is carried by
the bright, natural acid of the fruit.

The right soil, the right climate,
the right people.
Lodi is ideally
situated between the Sierra Nevada foothills and the San Francisco Bay.
Warm days and cool evening breezes (marine influences) create a uniquely
Mediterranean climate perfectly suited to cultivating California's top
varietals- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and
Zinfandel. While all these grapes thrive here, Zinfandel is a singular
phenomenon. Old vines, some over 120 years old, gnarled and sculpted by
time, yield small amounts of fruit to create a wine that is the ultimate
expression of the terroir.

2006 Château du Donjon Minervois Grande
Tradition
Reg. $13.99
Sale Price: $9.99*
Case Price:
$7.99*
|
|
The Château du Donjon, located in the western
part of the Minervois region, south of France, was once the
property of the monks of the abbey of Caunes. It takes its name
from the ancient Château of Bagnoles and from its picturesque
13th century keep that shoots up in the middle of the
cellar. The climate here is mostly Mediterranean, read hot and
dry, but with the beginnings of Atlantic influence. The Donjon
Grande Tradition is produced from Grenache noir, Syrah and old
vines Carignane grapes grown in gravelly terraces and clay
limestone soils. Juicy fleshy red fruits and spice on the nose;
full, rich and generous (Donjon themselves call it powerful and
molten) on the tongue; silky textures balanced with a
kirsch-like astringency and nerve; nice long flourish of cherry
and spicy berryish flavors lively to the finish.
Food Pairing: A good match for
grills, sauces and stron cheese, this wine also works well
with duck served with honey or guined hen with port.
*No additional discounts. No reward
points. Sale price is thru February 7, 2010 or while supplies
last. Case price is on purchases of 12 bottles or more of the
same wine.
